First of all: This whole thing about "not telling" is just a marketing gag for me and completely unnecessary. So I will write this review with references to the plot but obviously trying not to spoil it, as I would with any review about any novel. The novel is excellent, and having a basic idea about it does not take away from the quality of story, language, and narrative.

Now:
The story is told from two perspectives: that of Little Bee, a girl from Nigeria who as the novel sets in is about to leave a British Immigration detention center, and a successful middle class white English woman. The lives of these two women were joined in a most horrid incident two years earlier.

Ich habe dieses Buch schon vor längerer Zeit auf Englisch gelesen und kann nur bestätigen, was meine VorgängerInnen geschrieben haben: Es ist ein außergewöhnliches, tolles Buch, vor allem die Sprache ist einfach wunderschön. ABER: Das Buch beschreibt viele sehr, sehr grausame Szenen und die bleiben einem erhalten - zumindest bei mir war es so.

Na super: Der Verlag verschweigt auf Wunsch des Autors den Inhalt eines Buches, denn "The magic is in how it unfolds". Ist das ein schlauer Marketing-Gag für ein mittelmäßiges Werk? Oder doch ein nachvollziehbarer Gedanke für ein ganz und gar außergewöhnliches Buch? Und wie kann man eine Bewertung über einen Roman schreiben, über dessen Handlung man nichts verraten soll?

Soviel gibt der Buchrücken dann doch her: "Little Bee" (in der britischen Ausgabe "The Other Hand") erzählt von zwei Frauen, die so unterschiedlich wie nur irgend möglich und dennoch durch eine ganz besondere Geschichte miteinander verbunden sind.
